14.9.07 The Running Entry I wanted to make this entry since Monday I think but unfortunately, lab reports keep nipping my back so have to put off this entry till now. Anyway after the previous entry I have been considering about what should I write about next. So after some thinking I decided to make an entry about my latest craze: Running. ![]() I wasn't much into running till recently. Well, yes I do run in the past ( a week or 2 before NAFA / IPPT in desperation to train for 2.4) but its only recently I development a interest in running as a hobby. This subsequently lead me to sign up for this year's Army half Marathon and complete my first (definitely not last) 21km. ![]() Spectacular sight at the starting point. But alas~ wasn't my race which flag off much much earlier AHM 2007 Well I cant remember whether it's because I started running that made me sign up for it or because I sign up for it and hence starting running. Whatever.Anyway I ended up going for the run with Edwin whom I meet during Rovers camp. For those that have been up to date with me will be aware that I was quite hyped up for this run(first timer for such runs) and had been doing some training for it. i was aiming to finish the race in 1:50 - 2:00 hours time and so it was a pleasant surprise when I found out that i actually completed it in 1:43. Not a big deal considering that this timing only got me about 300+ position but I still feel its a rather respectable timing considering that I wasn't a season runner yet and its my first time taking part in such runs. In short, it was an exciting experience I would say. To wake up in the unholy hours of Sunday morning about 3+am and making my way down to Esplanade only to see that place already crawling with running enthusiast and of course poor NS guys that got their weekend burn doing "sai kang".![]() The run itself was a refreshing break for me as well. Having been running around my neighborhood most of the time, I had the opportunity to do my running in the CBD area and along all the roads that I normally would have just sped past in a vehicle. ![]() Apparently the organiser linked up with an external agency to take the photos of each runner across the finishing line. Found mine but don't think I will spend the $ to buy them online. New Balance Real Run 2007 Next up for me I guess will be the New Balance Real Run 2007 in mid October. Although the registration fee is more expensive as compared to AHM, I feel that it's worth it. 1. The tee-shirt for this year NBRR is much x 100 nicer then that fugly tee I got for AHM 2. Maybe a NB shoe bag and arm pouch will be in the goodie bag. ( again, missing from AHM) 3. Interesting route: 15km or which 12km road, 1km trail, 1km sand, 1km Changi Airport / RSAF Changi East runway. (Doubt it will be the actual runway in the case of Changi International, so likely taxiway?) 4. Late flag off time 0730 vs the unholy 0530 of AHM. 5. Shuttle bus is even available from island wide MRT stations. Closing date for registration will be 30th Sept. So for those interested, can visit to following website to take a look and join me if possible okay? New Balance Real Run '07 This ends my entry today. Hope I didn't bore those non-runners out there. In fact I hope after reading this entry some of you might be motivated to go dig out your running shoes? Till next time, happy running! p.s. wanted to write about running tips and gears recommendations but I shall leave it to the next post. However for those that got something to share, you can start the ball rolling by putting them as comments. Cheers! SJ blogged at 02:12 0 comments |
