4.10.07 Kayaking 2 Star Mid term break comes~ Mid term break goes. %$#@ so fast. Anyway finally found time to make an entry on the kayaking course I went during the break. ![]() Saw this notice on IVLE about NUS Canoeing liaising for a kayaking 2 star course to be held during the term break and since I haven't got any mid term test/assignment to worry about ( Mech. Engine rocks! but then again final paper mostly 70%-80% weightage *glups* ) just "heck la! "hamtum" then say". Manage to get Hwi Bee ( fellow ME course mate) interested so in the end 2 of us signed up. Quite a fruitful and good course I should say. Got a good price for the course, got a professional no nonsense coach and a bunch of nice guys ( didn't know them initially) to grind through the 3 days. ![]() Started off quite slowly for me since my 1 star was like 4-5 years ago. In addition, the 1 star I took was not very well organised that time so I almost have to learn all the stuff again the correct and proper way ( luckily got a recap session before we start the 2 star stuffs). Just making a list of stuff I learnt during the 3 days (Guess its not going to make sense to most of you aka can skip). So in future when I want go 3 star can refer back to this post to recapped. 1star -parts of kayak -carrying/launching -forward/reverse paddling -efficient halting -forward/reverse sweep -stern rudder -capsize -rafted TX rescue -classical draw/ J draw 2star -safety hazards/ environment hazards -tides -carrying out an expedition -different kinds of kayaks/canoe/paddles -rotation on spot -sculling draw -low brace turn -high/low brace recovery -bow rudder -single TX rescue -Eskimo bow rescue -kayak to swimmer rescue -capsize/ emptying (commando/ beach sea saw/ flick) Didn't took any picture on the first 2 days but on the 3rd Hwi Bee brought her camera ( she not scare drop into water I scared) for our expedition. Photos as follows: ![]() Coach Peter who manage the camera dry and still take all the photos for us Feel quite a sense of accomplishment. Instead of slacking at home and waste my entire mid term break, I pulled myself out of bed for 3 morning to go for the course. Furthermore the coach was a friendly yet no-nonsense-when-required guy and so it feels good to be certified by him. Finally, can go out to sea without need for supervision instead of being stuck in the "babysit" area to splash water. Think I will start clocking my expedition experience soon so that in time to come I will go for 3 star. p.s I am still so "chao ta-ed" after 3 full afternoon at Kallang Basin. Saw a Malay boy at the void deck yesterday. He is fairer then me... ... SJ blogged at 23:55 0 comments |
